What is your favorite thing about SU?
I love the friends and connections I have made here. The people I have met have shaped who I am and I am so grateful to have found such incredible people at a point in my life when I experience the most growth.
What is your favorite SU memory?
When the basketball team was undefeated my freshman year. Everyone was united in this excitement and thrill of breaking the undefeated record for the league.
If you could tell a new or incoming student just ONE thing about SU, what it would be?
Keep an open mind. There are so many opportunities here and you never know what you may fall in love with.
Hi! My name is Emily Fesnak and I’m taking over the @oursyracuseu account this week! I’m a junior dual-major with public relations in @newhousesu and information technology in the @ischoolsu. I also have a minor in computer engineering within @engineeringsu. I’m from Philadelphia, PA, but spent last summer working in Syracuse for the university in technology and communications roles. I’m still figuring out what I want to do after graduation, but I still have lots of time before I decide! I am also captain of the SU swim club, as well as the vice president of communications for SU’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. I’m excited to give you guys a glimpse into my life in Syracuse. It’s going to be a fun week! Thank you for following! -EF #SyracuseU
I had to take advantage of this rare mild February weather! Thornden Park is my favorite place to go for a run on campus. Running is one of my favorite escapes when I have a bad day or get too stressed. If you ever need a break, this is the place to go. Running up the hills around campus are a great workout and you can’t beat the views! I’m glad it was warm enough that I finally got the opportunity to run outside again. Keep an eye out for me running down Comstock Avenue later this week! -EF #syracuseu
#SelfieTuesday is a thing, right? I ran into @theottoorange on his scooter outside @newhousesu and couldn’t help but take a selfie with him! The epitome of the student body’s school spirit, seeing Otto on campus is like seeing a celebrity. I had to wait in line to get a picture with him, but it was totally worth it! I just wish my arm was long enough to have fit all of him in the photo 😄 -EF #syracuseu
When I first came to SU, I had no idea what the @ischoolsu was. I was a communications major whose experience with technology began and ended with her cellphone and laptop. Little did I know that in this building, I would uncover an untapped passion for technology that would completely redirect my career path. The faculty and staff in this building fostered my talents and motivated me to explore new areas. I found my passion where I least expected it and that’s one of the reasons I chose SU the first place. This university has so much to offer, you just need an open mind and it will surprise you.-EF #syracuseu
Did you know Syracuse has a swim team? If you didn’t, you’re not alone. Most people are surprised to hear we have a club team, but this group of swimmers is my family. Some people find a sense of belonging and support in Greek life; I found that unconditional acceptance with a group of students who share my love for being in the water. There are countless opportunities on campus to find your own SU family (or families). I can’t imagine life on campus without mine. -EF 🏊 #syracuseu
Want a lunch suggestion? Food.com in @newhousesu is my FAVORITE place to grab a snack or a meal on campus! They have amazing smoothies, Dunkin Donuts, sandwiches and the best mac and cheese! I always run in after or between my Newhouse classes. It’s also a prime study spot, so you can eat while you work. I don’t know about you, but as soon as I start to study, I start craving a snack. Getting hungry yet? -EF #syracuseu
My home college is @newhousesu and its public relations program is the initial reason I came to Syracuse. It’s revered communications program attracted me and throughout my time in this school, I’ve had ample opportunities to practice and develop my writing and communications skills. I’m glad that I have so much balance in my academic career. I get to figure out puzzles and work with algorithms in my computer coding classes, but I also express my creative and critical-thinking side every day in my Newhouse classes. So, thank you Newhouse for being the first step on this journey. -EF #syracuseu
#TBT I’ve waited all week to for this day so I could throw it back to my days abroad! This past fall, I studied in London through the @suabroad program. Living and traveling in Europe changed my life. It changed who I am. I learned how to be independent on a whole new level and learned so much about myself, as well. I wish every student embraces the opportunity to go abroad in college. See the world, experience diverse cultures, and challenge yourself. There is a lot to see beyond the Hill! It’s worth a peek 😊 -EF #syracuseu
One more #TBT because I’m so excited to post about my abroad trip with my fellow SU classmates! This was taken in beautiful Iceland while riding a purebred Icelandic horse through lava fields. Yeah…pretty cool, right? While there on fall break, I snorkeled between the North American and European tectonic plates, relaxed at a hot spring spa and attempted to see the Northern Lights (it was too cloudy). It was definitely the most amazing experience of my life, so I’m really glad I can share it with all of you. To be honest, the pictures don’t even do it justice…it’s truly breathtaking and humbling to see in person -EF #syracuseu
As a PR major, I was eager as a freshman to get involved and I found a way to do so in SUPRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America). Since my first year, I have been on the executive board of this award-winning chapter. For the past two years, I have acted as vice president of communications. I manage all the social media accounts, website and a team of bloggers for the chapter. Through this experience and with the help of my fellow board members, I’ve developed leadership and management skills that I can use after graduation. I’m so thankful for opportunities like this one to learn and utilize important such career skills. -EF #syracuseu
My most difficult classes are definitely my @engineeringsu ones for my minor and I take them in the Life Sciences building. Ironically, while they are my most-challenging courses, I tend to enjoy them the most. I’m perfectly happy spending hours in this building working out kinks in code or figuring out algorithms. Honestly, I’m proud to be apart of this program and work in this building every day. -EF #syracuseu
Fridays are labs days at the @ischoolsu. The dual-monitors and software on the lab computers are useful for both my @engineeringsu, @newhousesu and ischool homework. I spend most of my fridays getting homework done here before relaxing for the weekend. It’s the perfect place to work on all my projects. But now, it’s time to go home and have some fun after a week of hard work! Well, Syracuse, it’s been a fun week. I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my life at SU. If anyone is interested in taking over this account in the future, applications are available at http://socialmedia.syr.edu/oursyracuseu/apply-for-oursyracuseu/ . Have a great weekend, everyone! -EF #syracuseu
