Happy Monday! My name is Jane Hong and I’m a senior Broadcast and Digital Journalism major at @newhousesu. I’m so excited to be sharing my adventures with you this week! I virtually fell in love with @syracuseu before coming here from California. Now, three years later, I can genuinely say that there’s no other place I would rather be than in the #OrangeNation. Currently, I’m a Resident Advisor, a member of the Student Philanthropy Council, and Vice President of @SUStudentAssociation. I love everything orange, including this orange tree in our Schine Student Center. 🍊 I can’t wait to share parts of my week with you! -JH #SyracuseU
My biggest piece of advice for any college student is to get involved. Find something you’re passionate about, be a part of a student organization, and contribute to something great. For me, that’s @SUstudentassociation, the official undergraduate student government at @syracuseu. Last year, I was elected by the student body to be Vice President alongside @ayshaseedat, who serves as the President. Our jobs can be demanding, tiring, and stressful at times but there’s nothing we would rather do than serve our students. We are so grateful for the opportunity to create real solutions that improve the lives of students! -JH #SyracuseU
#TBT: I had the pleasure of studying abroad in Madrid, Spain last fall through @suabroad. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss walking about the Spanish capital, learning more about the culture, and exploring the city. There’s so much to learn outside of a classroom, and I encourage every student to take advantage of the opportunity! -JH #SyracuseU
On Dec. 21, 1988, Pan Am 103 was bombed in a terrorist attack: killing 270 people, including 35 @syracuseu students. Today, I laid down flowers on behalf of @sustudentassociation in honor of Frederick “Sandy” Phillips. He was Vice President of our organization at the time. Years later, the community continues to remember the lives lost and act forward in their memory. -JH #SyracuseU #SURemembrance15
Studying is a little easier when you have such a great view from Bird Library. As a Broadcast and Digital Journalism major in @newhousesu, I’m taking a required Communications Law class for journalists. The material is extensive, but I love studying past cases involving free speech and the First Amendment. We even do activities similar to mock case trials in class, arguing from specific perspectives. The interactive classes my major has to offer make my learning experiences so memorable! -JH #SyracuseU
When I need some alone time after going to meetings, classes, and work, I come to Hendrick’s Chapel. If I’m really lucky, someone will be playing the piano which makes my alone time all the more enjoyable. Come May, I’ll be graduating from a place that I truly consider home. A lot can happen in four years, and I’m especially thankful for every opportunity that’s come my way: including sharing my adventures with you this week! -JH #SyracuseU
