The Traditions Commission Executive Board took over @OurSyracuseU for Winter Carnival 2018! The team includes: Jen Sweet ’18, Kyle Putnam ’18, Carly Kaplan ’19, Sam Walters ’19, Nicole Weaving ’20.
Hi everybody!! My name is Kyle Putnam and I am the secretary of Traditions Commission here at SU. Traditions Commission (TC) is an organization on campus that helps to plan events like Orange Central in the fall and National Orange Day in the spring. We are so excited for our events during Winter Carnival this week – come check them out and get in the orange spirit!! – KP
Kyle here! A little more about me – I am a senior majoring in Economics, Mathematics, and Policy Studies and have been an SU fan my whole life – which led me to TC! This picture is from sophomore year when our president, Jen, and I got to go on the local news to talk about SU’s Homecoming Week. I hope that you enjoy learning more about Winter Carnival this week!! – KP
Tomorrow kicks off Winter Carnival and features my favorite event: Trivia Night! I love Trivia because I usually sweep the competition when it comes to SU sports knowledge…but I’m still brushing up on my pop culture! Come join us in the Schine 304s tomorrow night for an awesome way to hang out with friends – and grab some free food while you’re at it! Trivia Question 1: can anyone guess what country I’m in in this picture?! – KP
Hi everyone! I’m Carly and I am the Co-Membership Chair for Traditions Commission! I am a junior majoring in Food Studies. I spent this past semester in London and loved every second of it! Now, I’m back at ‘Cuse and, along with serving on the executive board for TC, I am also on the e-board for Hillel Jewish Student Union! I run our social media accounts and LOVE a good matzos ball 🙂 Happy Winter Carnival everyone!! – CK
Winter Carnival Days are one of my favorite parts of the entire semester! TC takes over the Schine Atrium and fills it with free food, giveaways, a caricature artist, spin art, and tons of good music. It really embodies the spirit of Winter Carnival – which is to give students a fun break in the middle of their busy semester. Plus, there may or not be free winter hats as a giveaway (but you didn’t hear that from me!) – CK
Good morning, Syracuse! I’m Nicole Weaving, a sophomore Broadcast and Digital Journalism student here at ‘Cuse. I am the Co-Membership Chair of Traditions Commission. On campus, I am involved with CitrusTV, Z89 Radio, Relay for Life, the Club Lacrosse team, and a sister of Alpha Gamma Delta. While I’m not busy on campus, you can catch me grabbing amazing desserts like this insane waffle 😋
Head over to the HBC Patio at 11am tomorrow for the annual Chili Cook-Off! It’s a friendly competition for the title of Best Chili on campus, with submissions from students, faculty, alumni, and all chili fans!! With some high-quality judges at the ready, it is bound to be a lot of fun! Otto is usually a favorite to win…but his chili is a bit too orange-y for my taste 🙂 -NW
The fun tomorrow doesn’t stop at chili!! Come join us at Cozy Capella at 8:30pm tomorrow in the Goldstein Auditorium to listen to our talented a cappella groups perform! Last year, I had the honor of hosting Cozy Capella with my friend, Hernz, and we had an absolute blast! I won’t be on stage this year, but I’ll definitely be cheering in the crowd (and enjoying a few of the free desserts at the event)! -NW
Hey everyone!! Who’s ready to watch ‘Cuse beat Duke this weekend? I know I am! I’m Sam Walters and I am a sophomore in the Whitman School of Management studying marketing! On campus I’m super involved with my sorority @dphiesyracuse , University 100 Tours, and most importantly, Traditions Commission! I serve as the treasurer of TC and have been loving every minute of it!
Lace on your skates and head to Glow in the Dark Late Night Skate Night tomorrow night at Tennity Ice Pavilion. There will be food, free skating and lots of fun glow stuff! If ice skating isn’t your style, don’t worry, we also have Plant Night tomorrow night where you and your friends can make your own teririums to give a little life to to your dorm rooms. This is going to be such a fun weekend and I hope to see you all there with our best pal, Otto! Go Orange!! -SW
HI! My name is Jen Sweet, I am a senior CRS & Political Science double major and the president of Traditions Commission! I also work as an RA in DellPlain Hall, and as the internal Community Engagement Chair for Student Association. I like to take every chance I get to enhance the student experience here on campus🌻🌻🌻
This is from Laser Tag my freshman year, and also is my first ever photo with Otto! While this weekend will be my last Lasertag as a member of TC the event will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s always amazed me to see Goldstein Auditorium transformed into a lasertag arena, and to watch students go through again and again having more fun each time. It’s such a great opportunity for students to get out and do something with their friends (for FREE) without having to go to destiny or downtown. Be sure to come out Saturday from 8PM-12AM! There will be tons of food & so much fun to be had!!!-JS
Thanks so much for following along this week! If you are interested in planning events like this feel free to reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter OR email SUTraditions@gmail.com ! We are always looking for new ideas and new perspectives! Keep an eye out when we get back from spring break for our National Orange Day pins!!! Thanks again and stay orange!!
