What is your favorite part about Syracuse?
I have way too many favorite things, but I love the genuine willingness of alumni, professors and students that reach out and help you get where you want to be, whether it’s about a career choice or a personal issue.
What is your favorite Syracuse memory?
Seeing snow fall for the first time freshman year was really memorable.
If you could tell a current or incoming student just ONE thing about Syracuse, what would it be?
Get involved in something or you are missing out.
Good morning, #OrangeNation! My name is Jessica Engs and this week I’ll be showing you what my life at SU is like. I’m a junior majoring in Television, Radio & Film at @newhousesu with a minor in Geography. I was born and raised in the sunny state of California, but consider Syracuse my second home. Currently, I’m a member of SU’s social media team, the Director of Campus Relations for a club called Protect Our Breasts, a Career Services Student Ambassador, a Newhouse Peer Adviser and a member of the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi. Syracuse University is my pride and joy and I can’t wait to share it with you this week! – JE #SyracuseU
One of my favorite places to study on campus is Panasci Lounge in Schine. Every Tuesday and Thursday I spend a couple of hours here in between classes getting work done, watching Netflix or just relaxing. I love sitting in the comfy chairs and looking out the window at main campus. The view is absolutely amazing, even on gloomy days like today. – JE #SyracuseU
Fitness has always been a big part of my life and I have played sports for as long as I can remember. One of my favorite places to work out on campus is Archbold Gymnasium. I usually go to the gym in the morning for a quick run before my classes. If you’re looking for a way to get active on campus, check out www.recreationservices.syr.edu – JE #SyracuseU
#TBT to Yoga in the Park, Alpha Phi’s fall philanthropy event. Yoga in the Park is exactly what it sounds like. Syracuse fraternities and sororities, along with anyone else, participate in a yoga class conducted by a local yoga instructor in Walnut Park. Along with the class, we sell t-shirts, baked goods and more. This year we raised around $1200, which we donated to the American Brain Tumor Association. Yoga in the Park is a great way to unite the SU community for a peaceful day of yoga while raising money for a good cause. – JE #SyracuseU
Fall is my favorite time of year in Syracuse. Back at home in Los Angeles, there is only one season year round – summer. I love going to a school where I can truly experience the four seasons. The main reason I love fall at SU is because of the colorful leaves. I feel so lucky being able to walk out of my apartment every morning and look up at the amazing trees and the beautiful leaves on buildings, like this one. 🍂🍁 – JE #SyracuseU
One of my favorite places to grab a warm drink before class is @peoplesplacesu. My favorite drink on the menu is the Austin Powers, which is half coffee and half hot chocolate. I love this drink because I’m not a huge coffee fan. If you’ve never been to People’s Place, I recommend trying it out! ☕️ – JE #SyracuseU
Syracuse is a beautiful place and I love exploring when I have the chance. Green Lakes State Park is about 20 minutes from SU and the views are absolutely stunning. If you haven’t been off campus yet, I really suggest you do because Syracuse is a great city with so much to offer. Thanks for following me around SU this week! I had a lot of fun sharing my adventures with you and hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday! – JE #SyracuseU
